Morning Glory Community Garden

Morning Glory Community Garden is a GreenThumb community garden located in the Crotona Park East neighborhood of the South Bronx. They are 100% volunteer led organization, founded in 2014 as part of the Gardens for Healthy Communities Program within the Mayor’s Obesity Task Force Initiative. Their noble mission is to sustainably meet the food needs of our community through urban agriculture.

Just like us, they recognize the integral role community gardens play in community life and urban infrastructure. Together, we are all committed to supporting broader efforts to secure permanent spaces for all community gardens in the Bronx and elsewhere in New York and the country.

Working with them has been one of the simplest and smartest partnerships one could imagine. The revenue they generate from selling peppers to Small Axe, has helped to expand their growing space, further facilitating a sense of community in the Bronx. After-all, what builds community better than seeing a Small Axe Hot Sauce at a neighborhood grocery store, and knowing that you, as a community gardner, have been a part of its production.

Meet one of the Gardner’s Kadeeja. A chef at heart, she wanted to get closer to the source of the produce she cooks with. After stumbling upon Morning Glory Community Garden, she got involved immediately.

Fast forward three years and she has her own personal garden bed and assists with the all the vegetables in the garden. What she loves about urban farming is feeling more connected with nature, while growing food for Bronx locals that didn’t previously have access to fresh veggies and herbs.

Remember, each purchase of Small Axe Hot sauce directly support gardens like Morning Glory. Buy some now and help them grow their efforts!
