Simon’s Green Acre Community Garden (SGA) (Winston-Salem, NC) was founded in SGA was founded in 2011 to provide community members with access to healthy and chemical-free produce. Families, individuals, and organizations are able to rent low-cost raised beds to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. SGA is located on the grounds of the Enterprise Center, an entrepreneurial incubator, whose mission is to empower, transform, and transition entrepreneurs into self-sufficient and self-confident business owners. and serves Following a year of adapting to COVID-19 in 2020, we were able to resume our bi-monthly on-site farmers’ markets and our educational series, Cooking In the Garden. Chefs from the Enterprise Center’s shared kitchen conducted free cooking demos for the community once per month using seasonal produce freshly harvested from the SGA garden. Food samples and recipe cards were provided to participants. . This garden is a place where people can learn, work, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. It exemplifies community growth and contribution.
