At our Neptune facility we grow in 25 wooden raised beds. On the entire 1/4-acre deer-fenced we’ve added a cold frame, two three-bin compost system and an Eagle Scout built wash station. In this time, we’ve developed an Agency Garden Network, Agricultural- Based Education for our established Culinary Program, and have doubled the amount of produce that is grown. We currently harvest an average of 4000 pounds of vegetables and fruit per season. This produce gets seeded, cultivated, harvested, washed and stored on premise. When the fresh vegetables are picked and packed, they are loaded onto our mobile pantry, travel to our culinary kitchen program, or picked up by one of our agencies. Our Agency Garden Network is a collection of seven pantry and soup kitchen gardens that grow for themselves with the assistance of the Garden Coordinator. Our Agricultural-Based Education is a series of three workshops and a local farm visit as an addition to our Culinary Arts Program 13-week curriculum. |
